Chapter 5

For Whom the Bells Toll

While Raziel was on his way to the Barbarian encampment with Sven, the group moved into the first aid station where Charjer was introduced to the monk, Min.

"We go way back, me, Cueball, and Min," beamed Ate. "We met him while we were traveling to Spider Island."

"We wondered why a monk would be gathering wheatgrass in a swamp," continued Cueball.

"Well, we found out that he was searching for a cure for one of the other monks in the monastery," interjected Ate.

Cueball interrupted again. "Then this spider attacked us out of nowhere and Min touched it in a certain spot and it fell down dead. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen."

"And we've been friends ever since," said Ate, his face with a big smile on it.

Min smiled and bowed his head slightly. "Yes. That's how I met Ate and Cueball. This dilemma brought me down from the monastery. Not only that, but..." He trailed off going deep into thought.

"What is it?" asked Ryoga.

Min began his story. "Last week, the brothers who run the monastery, Anwar and Basov, suddenly vanished. A few days later, the fires went out. The others were distraught. I left two days ago to see if anyone could help."

Right after he finished his story, bells were heard off in the distance. They were slow and sounded sad.

"What's that?" asked Charjer.

"Hmmm," thought Ryoga. Gohan sighed.

"Shit," he said.

"Looks like Raziel thought too highly of himself," said Ate.

Charjer looked at the others, then at Kechara, who looked right back at him. "So what do we do now?" he asked.

"There's only one thing we can do now," replied Ryoga. "We have to take her out ourselves."
