Chapter 3

The Great White Goat

The group rushed over to the temple located just outside the park.

"Ryoga, Cueball," greeted a warrior acolyte at the front steps. "What brings you here?"

"We have urgent news," reported Ryoga.

"We must consult with Alith," said Cueball.

"Demons from hell have entered our land," continued Ryoga. "If they are not stopped, we will be overrun, perhaps even made slaves."

The acolyte nodded and had them follow him into the temple. They walked down a long hallway and up a long flight of stairs. When they reached the top, they stopped before the door and the acolyte turned to the group.

"Be courteous," he instructed. "He is the protector of us all. Should anything happen to him, it will be the ruin of us all."

Everyone nodded. The acolyte turned around and opened the door to the room beyond. They all walked into a room filled with two rows of paladins on either side lining the path to the throne on which the great white goat resided.

"Order of the Crimson Rose," Cueball told Charjer. "They're paladins in charge of protecting Alith." Charjer nodded.

When they had reached the throne, they all stopped and kneeled.

"Please, rise," said Alith. They arose and Charjer saw that he was indeed a goat.

Ryoga stepped forward. "My lord. Demons from..." he trailed off.

"Yes, my pupil," interjected Alith. "I know of them."

"What shall we do, lord?" asked Ryoga.

Alith looked at him and smiled. "You will know what to do. You were, after all, my best student. Take with you my blessing and protection to the place where the demons enter our land."

He waved his hoof and created a divine magic that would protect the group in their upcoming battle.

"Be wary in your travels for danger lies ahead," he warned. "Now go and save our land from these monstrosities."

Everyone kneeled once again and followed the acolyte out.
