Chapter 7

So, What is This Thing Called?

The ship builder stood at the podium in front of his larger creation and opened with a speech. "Good evening!" he began. "My name is Cren. Many moons ago, I was commissioned by the Duke of Lindon to create a vessel unlike any other seen before. So, I give you this!" He gestured to his creation, towering over him.

"What do you call it, this vessel?" asked a member of the audience.

"I shall call it: a sea cart!" proclaimed Cren. There was a murmuring amongst the crowd.

The group chuckled. "Sir!" yelled another member in the audience. "What is your profession?"

I am a ship builder," replied Cren.

"Why not call it a ship?"

"That's a good idea!" After a moment, Cren said, "From this day forward, this vessel shall be called a ship!"

"One moment!" boomed a voice behind Cren. "Since it was I who commissioned the building of this vessel, only I can proclaim it to be called a ship!"

"I'm sorry, my lord," said Cren. "Ladies and gentlemen, the Duke of Lindon, Lord Ponternal."

Lord Ponternal took the podium. "Thank you. I think we've wasted enough time. Champagne bottle please." One of the attendants handed him a champagne bottle. "I now christen this vessel His Majesty's Ship, The Barracuda." He impacted the bottle on the aft rigging and everyone cheered.

The ship was then launched and carefully docked.

One of the announcers stood at the podium. "The ship is now open for viewing."
